Today marks the start of the regular season for the NBA. The off season had some major moves made as well as some less than popular moves made. There are some stories that will get forced upon us all season long while others might not get mentioned until the end of the season. This season seems to have more to talk about than other seasons in recent memory. These are the topics that I am going to be looking forward to.
Let's get the elephant in the room out of the way, I will be looking forward to LeBron and Bronny playing together. This is a first for the NBA and a major milestone. Ken Griffey Jr will be at the game which makes it more special for me. I don't know the equivalent in basketball to the Griffey's hitting back to back home runs, but there can be some special moments with the James' in their first game together.
I can't wait to see how Dallas integrates Klay Thompson into their schemes. I still have Klay as a top shooter in the league. I do believe in order to make the most of what they have, the Mavericks have to convince Luka Doncic to move off of the ball earlier in the shot clock. That will help Klay as well as the rest of the team. Also I'm looking to see the Klay Thompson that starts to bob his head as he walks and talks to himself. In the past, when he has done that, it was a long night for whoever was guarding him.
My biggest question is will the Clippers decided to blow up the team prior to the end of this season. Paul George is in Philadelphia and Kawhi Leonard is out indefinitely. Do you make James Harden your centerpiece or do you build around someone else? Do you try to win by committee or do you pick one player to shoulder the load? I have no idea what they look to do this season but I'm sure we'll soon find out what their plans are for the future in the short and long term.
I'm big on the rookies this year. In my humble opinion, this group is underrated. I know its early but I am excited about the rookies coming in this year. I will be paying attention to Dalton Knecht, Zach Edey, Rob Dillingham, Stephon Castle, and Matas Buzelis. They aren't the only ones but they are at the top of my list.
To a lesser extent I will be watching for Porzingis to make a healthy return as the Celtics try to repeat. Milwaukee will be on my radar as well. I want to see how Coach Rivers, Giannis and Dame work together and if they find a replacement for Kris Middleton. Finally, I am looking for the return of Lonzo Ball. I truly hope he makes a return that energizes the Bulls and helps them get up and down the floor with a little more urgency.
